The perfect 10-day Nicaragua luxury itinerary — covering Granada, Ometepe, Corn Islands, San Juan del Sur, and León with private transfers, expert guides, and the finest accommodation available.
Ten Days in Nicaragua: A Journey Through the Country’s Greatest Destinations
Ten days is the ideal length for Nicaragua. It is enough time to see the country’s major highlights without rushing, to allow for the inevitable travel day adjustments, and to include at least 2–3 nights in the Corn Islands — which require their own temporal logic and will not be hurried.
Day 1: Managua — Arrival and Orientation
Land at Augusto C. Sandino International Airport and transfer directly to Granada (1 hour by private vehicle). Managua itself is not a tourist destination and should not detain you beyond the necessary. Check into your Granada hotel, walk Calle La Calzada at dusk, and dinner at Restaurante El Garaje.
Days 2–3: Granada — The Colonial Capital
Day 2: Morning walking tour of Granada’s colonial architecture with a private guide. Islet tour on Lake Nicaragua — private lancha, 3 hours, fresh fish lunch at the water’s edge. Afternoon free for the market and souvenir shopping. Dinner at El Tranvía.
Day 3: Day trip to Volcán Mombacho (cloud forest, primate sighting, crater views). Return to Granada for an afternoon rest and final dinner at the hotel.
Days 4–5: Ometepe Island
Transfer to Rivas (1.5 hours by private vehicle) and ferry to Ometepe (1 hour). Check into Totoco Eco Lodge. Afternoon: acclimatize, swim, explore the immediate area. Day 5: ascent of Volcán Maderas with private guide (6–7 hours including crater lagoon). Evening recovery with massage at the lodge.
Days 6–8: Corn Islands — The Caribbean
Transfer from Ometepe back to Managua (3.5 hours with private vehicle and ferry), then domestic flight to Big Corn Island (35 minutes). Water taxi to Little Corn (30 minutes). 3 nights at Casa Iguana. Days structured around morning diving, afternoon snorkeling, and evening lobster dinners.
Day 9: San Juan del Sur — Pacific Closure
Fly from Big Corn back to Managua, transfer to San Juan del Sur (2 hours by private vehicle). Check into Pelican Eyes Resort. Afternoon: Cristo hike at sunset. Dinner in town.
Day 10: Departure or Extension
Morning: private boat to Playa Maderas for a final surf or snorkel session. Return to town for lunch. Transfer to Managua airport for departure, or extend for a final night in Managua before an early morning international flight.
