Green AirwaysCosta RicaDomestic
Green Airways operates alongside SANSA as Costa Rica’s domestic aviation duopoly. Founded to provide competition on the country’s most popular routes, Green Airways has established itself as a reliable alternative for travelers who can’t find SANSA availability or prefer a slightly different schedule.
Green Airways’ network
Green Airways serves the main domestic Costa Rica destinations: Liberia (LIR), Quepos (XQP), Nosara (NOB), Tamarindo (TNO), Puerto Jiménez (PJM) and Tortuguero (TTQ). Flights operate from both SJO and SYQ. The network largely mirrors SANSA’s, providing genuine scheduling competition on the busiest routes.
What sets Green Airways apart
Green Airways has invested in newer aircraft and tends to have slightly more consistent scheduling on some routes. The airline also has a more straightforward rebooking policy than SANSA in many travelers’ experience. Customer service is generally accessible and responsive for a small regional carrier.
The same limitations apply
Like SANSA, Green Airways operates on fixed schedules with limited same-day flexibility. All routes pass through San José — point-to-point regional connections without a SJO stopover are not possible. Baggage limits apply. In peak season, availability on popular routes tightens just as quickly as SANSA.
