AviancaCosta RicaSan José
Avianca connects Costa Rica to South America better than almost any other carrier — the BOG–SJO route is one of its most reliable in the region, and Avianca’s frequent flyer program (LifeMiles) is popular among Colombian, Ecuadorian and Venezuelan travelers using SJO as a gateway to North America.
Avianca’s Costa Rica schedule
Avianca operates multiple daily flights between Bogotá (BOG) and San José (SJO), with connections available to Medellín, Cali, Lima and other South American cities. Travel time BOG–SJO is approximately 2 hours 20 minutes — among the most direct links between South America and Central America.
Beyond San José
Like Copa, Avianca only lands at SJO. Travelers needing to reach Guanacaste (LIR), the Osa Peninsula (PJM), Tortuguero (TTQ) or other destinations within Costa Rica must either take a domestic SANSA or Green Airways flight, or arrange ground transport. AeroRide’s private charter service from SJO to any domestic airport offers a faster, simpler alternative.
Connecting onward privately
A growing segment of Avianca’s Costa Rica passengers arrive at SJO and immediately charter forward with AeroRide — cutting the connection to Manuel Antonio, Guanacaste or the Osa Peninsula to under an hour, versus 3–5 hours by road or a SANSA connection that requires advance booking and fixed schedules.
