Contadora Island in the Pearl Islands is one of Panama’s most exclusive Pacific destinations — 20 minutes by air from Panama City, yet a world away from the capital. Air Panama’s BLB–OTD route is the fastest and most comfortable way to reach the Pearl Islands, cutting a 90-minute boat ride to a 20-minute flight.
What Air Panama offers on this route
Air Panama operates BLB–OTD with several weekly frequencies, using small turboprop aircraft suited to Contadora’s short runway. The flight offers panoramic views of the Gulf of Panama, the Pearl Islands’ 250-island archipelago and, in season (July–October), humpback whales visible in the turquoise water below.
Contadora: what to do after landing
Contadora Island has pristine white-sand beaches, excellent snorkeling reefs, offshore sport fishing for marlin and yellowfin tuna, and the extraordinary Pearl Islands pelagic diving. The island’s handful of hotels are small and often book out weeks in advance. Arriving by private charter on AeroRide rather than Air Panama’s fixed schedule means landing at exactly the time your resort expects you — no waiting for the next available Air Panama seat.
Island hopping: private wins
The Pearl Islands has 250 islands; Air Panama serves only one (Contadora). Reaching uninhabited cayes, private anchorages or the outer islands for sport fishing requires either a boat charter from Contadora or a private air charter from BLB that can land on remote airstrips.
