Puerto Jiménez — Osa Peninsula. 2 min to Puerto Jiménez.
Puerto Jiménez Airport (IATA: PJM, ICAO: MRPJ) is the closest air access point to Corcovado National Park — widely considered the most biodiverse place on Earth per unit area and the crown jewel of Costa Rica's national park system. Located on the Golfo Dulce coast of the Osa Peninsula, at just 7 meters above sea level in some of the most remote lowland jungle remaining in Central America, PJM is a small but critically important airport for one of the country's most sought-after nature tourism destinations.
From PJM, Corcovado's La Leona ranger station (Pacific coast entry) is accessible by 4WD vehicle (45 minutes to Carate, then 1 hour walk on the beach at low tide) or by boat around the peninsula to Drake Bay. The Sirena biological station — the heart of Corcovado, reachable only by plane to Drake Bay, by boat, or by a 2-day rainforest hike — requires advance permits and guided access.
The Osa Peninsula, of which Puerto Jiménez is the capital, is the last intact lowland tropical rainforest on the Pacific coast of Central America. Scarlet macaws fly in pairs over the town's main street. White-faced capuchin monkeys raid fruit trees in hotel gardens. Tapirs and peccaries cross unpaved roads after dark. This is not managed nature tourism — this is the real thing.
A private charter from San José to Puerto Jiménez takes 55 minutes, replacing a genuinely difficult 7–8 hour overland journey on steep mountain roads. For the serious nature traveler, this connection is the entire difference between the Osa being a realistic destination and a logistical burden.

Puerto Jiménez Airport (IATA: PJM, ICAO: MRPJ) is a regional airport serving Puerto Jiménez and the Osa Peninsula. It is the primary air access point for Corcovado National Park. 1,100m runway, 7m elevation, daylight operations.
Sansa Airlines operates scheduled service from San José. AeroRide operates private charter flights from San José to PJM in approximately 55 minutes — vs. 7–8 hours by road. We strongly recommend the charter for Osa-bound travelers. Contact us via WhatsApp for scheduling.
PJM is the closest airport to Corcovado's La Leona entrance (Pacific south coast, via Carate). For the Sirena biological station and Drake Bay (north coast of Corcovado), Drake Bay Airport (DRK) provides closer access. For a comprehensive Corcovado trip, flying into PJM and out of DRK (or vice versa) is the most efficient routing.
PJM has a 1,100-meter (3,609 ft) gravel and asphalt runway at 7m elevation. It operates during daylight hours and accommodates small propeller aircraft and light turboprops (Cessna Caravan, Britten-Norman Islander). Not accessible to jets.
The closest airport to Corcovado accessible by private charter is Puerto Jiménez (PJM) or Drake Bay (DRK). AeroRide operates both routes from San José. PJM is approximately 55 minutes; DRK is approximately 55 minutes by different routing. Contact us for Corcovado-specific charter planning.
